Rwanda and Uzbekistan establish diplomatic relations to boost cooperation

Uzbekistan has been putting efforts in international relations, Rwanda becoming the 167th country to formally establish diplomatic relations.

The Government of Rwanda and that of Uzbekistan have officially established diplomatic relations following the signing of a joint communiqué confirming the launch of ties, as well as an agreement initiating political consultations.

The communiqué and agreement were signed by Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe and Bakhtiyor Saidov.

The two officials met during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum held in Turkey, where they initiated this new chapter in bilateral relations aimed at strengthening cooperation in diplomacy, trade, investment, and education.

Rwanda becomes the 167th country with which Uzbekistan has formally established diplomatic relations, marking a significant step in Uzbekistan’s efforts to expand its engagement with African nations. The signed agreements are expected to enhance political dialogue between the foreign ministries and governments of both countries.

This move aligns with Rwanda’s broader strategy to expand diplomatic partnerships worldwide. In less than a year, Rwanda has established relations with Denmark, signed peace cooperation agreements with Ukraine, and strengthened ties with India, Kyrgyzstan, and Oman. It has now extended its diplomatic reach to Tashkent in Central Asia.

On Uzbekistan’s side, establishing relations with Rwanda follows a similar move with Burundi in September 2024. The government of Uzbekistan affirms that Shavkat Mirziyoyev is committed to strengthening ties with African countries, a process expected to continue progressively.
