CNDD-FDD nominates President Ndayishimiye for Burundi’s 2027 presidential elections

The decision was made during an extraordinary general assembly of the party held on April 26, 2026.

The ruling party in Burundi, CNDD-FDD, has selected President Évariste Ndayishimiye as its candidate for the presidential election scheduled for 2027.

A message posted on the party’s official X (formerly Twitter) account confirmed that President Ndayishimiye will represent the party in the 2027 elections.

Among those considered potential candidates was the party’s Secretary-General, Révérien Ndikuriyo, who is reported to have differences with others regarding certain policies and their implementation.

After being confirmed, President Ndayishimiye stated that he is ready to continue leading the country.

He said, “I thank the party members for trusting me during the extraordinary congress and endorsing me as CNDD-FDD’s candidate in the 2027 presidential election. As we have worked together successfully, I promise to continue fulfilling these responsibilities so that every Burundian can prosper and benefit.”

If elected in 2027, Ndayishimiye would serve a second term as President of Burundi. He first came to power in 2020 after winning the presidential election.
