Rwanda and China have begun discussions aimed at establishing a parliamentary friendship group between members of their respective legislatures as part of efforts to deepen cooperation and strengthen relations between the two countries.
Speaking to RTV, Kazarwa said the discussions were part of broader efforts to reinforce the longstanding partnership between Rwanda and China across various sectors.
“My discussions with the Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda focused mainly on the relationship and friendship between the parliaments of China and Rwanda. These ties are supported by the cooperation that has existed for many years between our two countries in areas such as trade, infrastructure, and education,” she said.
Kazarwa noted that the talks also explored the establishment of a friendship group bringing together lawmakers from both nations.
“One of the outcomes of our discussions is that our parliaments will work together to establish a friendship group made up of members of parliament from China and Rwanda. Once such a group is formed, it helps strengthen cooperation because the legislatures can work closely together and discuss ways of ensuring that various initiatives move forward in a coordinated manner,” she explained.
Rwanda is among the African countries that maintain close ties with China, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Chinese Embassy in Rwanda recently announced that the number of Rwandans travelling to China has doubled over the past two years, largely due to measures aimed at simplifying visa procedures and expanding cooperation between the two countries in business, education, and knowledge exchange.
In 2023, more than 3,500 Rwandans visited China. By 2025, that number had increased to over 7,000, highlighting the growing interaction between the peoples of both countries.
