U.S. launches strike on Iranian weapons on Larak Island

U.S. officials have said American forces carried out a strike on Iranian weapons located on Larak Island in attacks conducted on Sunday. The operation was the first known U.S. strike against Iran since early July.

According to U.S. officials, the targeted weapons were allegedly being prepared to launch heavy missiles toward the Strait of Hormuz.

One U.S. official said, “I can confirm that U.S. forces today carried out a strike on two large Iranian weapons systems that were preparing to fire into the Strait of Hormuz.”

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the attack killed and injured several military personnel and civilians. The force vowed to respond strongly to what it described as U.S. aggression.

Iranian media reported that Tehran described the attack as a retaliatory operation and said U.S. forces had targeted Iranian personnel and positions on Larak Island.

U.S. President Donald Trump said the operation came after Iranian air defense systems in the area had reportedly been destroyed.

The latest incident could further escalate tensions between the United States and Iran, particularly amid growing concerns over security and military activity in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
