Manchester United’s search for stability has taken another dramatic turn, with Luis Enrique emerging as a serious candidate to become the club’s next permanent manager. Following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils have once again entered a transitional phase, one that former midfielder Kleberson believes can only be fixed by an elite, proven coach capable of restoring direction at Old Trafford.
United are not expected to make a permanent appointment until the summer, with Michael Carrick currently overseeing first-team affairs on an interim basis after taking over from caretaker Darren Fletcher. Carrick has been tasked with the difficult challenge of salvaging European qualification in what has been described as the club’s worst league campaign in 111 years, underlining the scale of the crisis.
While Carrick’s deep understanding of the club could earn him consideration for a longer stay, the expectation within football circles is that INEOS will pursue a more experienced tactician. Several high-profile names have already been linked with the role, including Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate, Mauricio Pochettino, Oliver Glasner and Enzo Maresca, but it is Luis Enrique’s profile that stands out most strongly.
Currently in charge of Paris Saint-Germain, Enrique brings a pedigree few candidates can match. He has won the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona, dominated domestic competitions in Spain and France, and shown an ability to manage elite dressing rooms filled with star players. His intense personality, tactical clarity, and demand for total commitment have become trademarks of his coaching career.
Speaking to GOAL in association with BetVictor Online Casino, Kleberson made it clear why he believes Enrique is the perfect fit to end United’s “rollercoaster” era.
“For me, I really want to see Luis Enrique at Man United,” Kleberson said. “Not just because he is a great coach, but because of the connection he creates with his players. When Luis Enrique coaches a team, the players want to do everything for him and for the club. That is what Manchester United are missing.”
Kleberson drew a direct comparison to Sir Alex Ferguson, highlighting the importance of authority and emotional buy-in within the squad.
“Years ago they had that with Ferguson. When he spoke, players wanted to work for him. I can see that same connection with Luis Enrique. Man United need to strike hard to try and get him.”
The former Brazilian international also stressed that while Carrick is a sensible short-term solution, United cannot afford indecision.
“The club needs to decide quickly who they want as manager. They need someone who can come in and say ‘this is how we play, this is the system, these are the players we need’. Waiting until the end of the season could cost them the chance to get a big coach.”
Beyond the dugout, major squad decisions loom. Bruno Fernandes, the club captain, continues to attract interest from Saudi Arabia, while Casemiro is approaching the final phase of his contract. According to Kleberson, managerial clarity could be decisive in retaining key figures.
“Bruno is the guy who can really breathe life into Man United. Everything depends on who the manager is. If a Luis Enrique is coming, players start thinking differently. They ask themselves, ‘why leave when a top coach is coming to build something serious?’”
United’s problems have not only been tactical, but structural fluctuating identity, inconsistent recruitment, and repeated managerial changes have created instability on and off the pitch. Enrique’s arrival would represent a clear shift toward a defined football philosophy, something the club has lacked since Ferguson’s departure.
As INEOS prepares to shape the next phase of Manchester United’s future, the decision over the permanent manager could define the club’s direction for years to come. For Kleberson and many supporters, Luis Enrique represents not just a coach, but a chance to finally end the cycle of uncertainty at Old Trafford.
