Central African Republic President awards medals to Rwandan peacekeepers for outstanding service

The President of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, has awarded Presidential Medals of Appreciation to members of RWANBATT-15, the Rwandan peacekeeping battalion, after they completed a one-year deployment under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The medal ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Bangui on July 21, 2026. It was attended by senior officials from the Central African Republic Government, Rwanda’s Ambassador to the Central African Republic, Olivier Kayumba, senior military leaders, and members of the Rwandan community living in the country.

According to Rwanda’s Ministry of Defence, the medals were awarded in recognition of the peacekeepers’ dedication, professionalism, and exemplary performance throughout their service under MINUSCA.

During their deployment, members of RWANBATT-15 played a significant role in protecting civilians and promoting peace, security, and stability across the Central African Republic.

The Presidential Medal of Appreciation symbolizes President Touadéra’s gratitude for the outstanding contribution made by the Rwandan peacekeepers in supporting peacekeeping operations and assisting the people of the Central African Republic.

The Commander of RWANBATT-15, Lt. Col. Paul Gasasira, thanked President Touadéra for the continued support he provided to the battalion throughout its mission. He also commended the professionalism, discipline, and commitment demonstrated by the troops during their deployment.

Rwanda has been contributing to United Nations peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic for several years through MINUSCA, a mission established to help restore peace, security, and stability in the country.

The Commanding Officer of RWANBATT-15, Lt Col Paul Gasasira, expressed his appreciation to the President of the Central African Republic for the continued support extended to the contingent in carrying out its mandate.
