China has announced a strong commitment to empower women and girls globally, joining hands with UN Women and the Rwandan government. The pledge follows the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women held in Beijing in October 2025, where world leaders set out a five-year plan to advance gender equality.

At the meeting, President Xi Jinping introduced a series of major initiatives:

  • US$10 million donation to UN Women to fund programs supporting women worldwide.
  • US$100 million from China’s Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund dedicated to projects benefiting women and girls.
  • Launch of 1,000 “small and beautiful” livelihood programs that focus on creating income and skill-building opportunities for women.
  • Invitation for 50,000 women to visit China for training and exchange programs to enhance skills and leadership.
  • Establishment of a Global Center for Women’s Capacity Building, providing training, resources, and support to women leaders globally.

Rwanda, recognized for its strong gender equality policies, is a key partner in implementing these initiatives. Together, China and Rwanda aim to open new doors for women in education, employment, and leadership across Africa.

Officials from UN Women and Rwanda welcomed the initiatives, highlighting their potential to make a lasting impact on women’s lives.

Chinese officials stressed, “Empowering women is not just about fairness,it also drives social and economic progress.” These programs mark an important step toward a more equal and prosperous future for women and girls worldwide.
