The Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) has signed a new partnership agreement with beverage manufacturer BRALIRWA Plc, a deal that will run until 2029 and further strengthen the development of basketball in Rwanda.
The agreement was officially signed on Friday, March 6, 2026, marking the continuation of cooperation between the two institutions.
Under the partnership, BRALIRWA Plc, through its energy drink brand Cheetah Energy Drink, will support basketball activities in Rwanda while also securing the exclusive rights to sell beverages during Rwanda’s national basketball competitions.
Deal valued at over Rwf700 million
The sponsorship package is valued at more than Rwf700 million, with BRALIRWA committing to provide Rwf175 million annually to FERWABA over the next four years.
The support will cover several competitions organized by the federation, including the Rwanda Basketball League First Division, Second Division, and the Playoffs.
BRALIRWA highlights commitment to basketball development
Speaking during the signing ceremony, BRALIRWA Plc Managing Director Ethel Emma-Uche said the company is proud to renew its partnership with FERWABA and continue contributing to the growth of basketball in Rwanda.
She noted that basketball has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, helping unite communities and create opportunities for young talents.
“We are delighted to renew our partnership and strengthen our collaboration with FERWABA. This reflects our strong commitment to supporting the growth of basketball in Rwanda. Through this partnership, we aim to contribute to the development of the sport and create unforgettable experiences for fans across the country,” she said.
Emma-Uche added that BRALIRWA believes in the positive impact of sports and expects the partnership to elevate Rwandan basketball to a higher level over the next four years.
FERWABA welcomes the partnership
FERWABA President Desire Mugwiza described the agreement as a significant milestone for basketball development in Rwanda.
He thanked BRALIRWA for its continued support and confidence in the federation’s vision.
“Our partnership with BRALIRWA Plc is a major step in advancing basketball in Rwanda. We appreciate their commitment and trust in FERWABA. This four-year agreement will help strengthen our competitions, support youth development programs, and promote sustainable growth and professionalism in the sport,” Mugwiza said.
Partnership began in 2022
This is not the first collaboration between the two institutions. FERWABA and BRALIRWA initially partnered in 2022 through the Cheetah Energy Drink brand.
At that time, they signed a three-year deal worth Rwf240 million, with BRALIRWA contributing over Rwf80 million per year.
The newly signed agreement significantly increases the value of the sponsorship and reflects the growing commercial appeal and development of basketball in Rwanda.
