Jonathan is in Rwanda to attend the 20th Africa Food Systems Forum (AFSF 2026), which is taking place in Kigali from August 31 to September 5, 2026.
The forum has brought together senior leaders from Africa and around the world, investors, scientists, private sector representatives and young innovators to discuss ways of accelerating Africa’s agricultural transformation, creating jobs and attracting investment in the food sector.
During his visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Jonathan was briefed on the history of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and toured different sections of the memorial.
The former Nigerian leader served as President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015.
The Kigali Genocide Memorial is one of Rwanda’s major memorial sites and is the final resting place of more than 250,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which began in April 1994.
