His death was announced on Monday, September 7, 2026, by Tanzania’s Vice President, Deogratius Ndejembi.
Ndejembi said that Hafidh Ameir Hassan died at Emilio Mzena Hospital in Zanzibar at around 8:00 a.m., where he had been receiving treatment for a heart condition.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan,” Ndejembi said.
The Vice President extended his condolences to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, her family, relatives, friends and the people of Tanzania.
According to Ndejembi, preparations for the burial were underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar.
The death of Hafidh Ameir Hassan marks a moment of mourning for President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her family, as condolences continue to pour in from across Tanzania.
