Ministers Sign Cultural Exchange Pact as Bilateral Cooperation Expands Across Key Sectors

NEW DELHI, India, and Rwanda have reaffirmed their growing diplomatic and economic partnership following the Second India-Rwanda Joint Commission Meeting, co-chaired by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, and India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh.

The high-level talks, held in New Delhi, marked a significant step forward in strengthening ties between the two nations, with both sides reviewing progress and setting new priorities for collaboration.

During the meeting, the two ministers conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations, examining cooperation in a wide range of sectors critical to both countries’ development agendas.

India and Rwanda discussed strengthening defence cooperation, including training, capacity building, and technical support. The partnership is seen as vital in promoting regional peace and stability in Africa, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda

Agriculture and Trade

Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Rwanda’s economy, and discussions focused on boosting productivity, enhancing irrigation systems, and expanding market access. Both countries also explored ways to increase trade volumes and attract greater investment flows.

Health and Education

The ministers emphasized collaboration in healthcare systems strengthening, pharmaceutical cooperation, and medical training. In education, India reiterated its support through scholarships and capacity-building programs for Rwandan students and professionals.

Science, Technology, and Digital Platforms

Innovation and digital transformation were key agenda items, with both nations recognizing the importance of technology-driven growth. India’s expertise in digital public infrastructure and IT solutions was highlighted as an area of mutual interest.

Cultural diplomacy featured prominently in the discussions, underscoring the importance of deepening mutual understanding between citizens of both countries.
