The 41-year-old star leaves the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons and joins the 76ers as he prepares to begin his 24th NBA season.
James revealed that he seriously considered retiring after last season but ultimately decided that he still loves the game and believes he is capable of competing for another NBA championship.
“This is my final decision. I believe I can help the Philadelphia 76ers win an NBA championship,” he said.
He explained that his decision to join Philadelphia was not motivated by money or family considerations, but by his desire to compete for one more NBA title before ending his career.
James has won four NBA championships, been named NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) four times, and is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
The Philadelphia 76ers will become the fourth NBA franchise of his career, following the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers.
Last season, James averaged 23 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds per game.
Over his legendary career, he has been selected to the All-NBA Team 22 times, won four NBA championships, and remains the league’s all-time leading scorer. In 1,622 regular-season games, he has scored a total of 43,440 points.
