Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of 114 of 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules, according to reports by The Athletic and The Times.

The reports, published on Friday, September 25, said the Premier League champions are expected to appeal the findings.

The Premier League has not confirmed the reported verdict. A spokesperson said the case is confidential and declined to comment. Manchester City also told the BBC that the inquiry into the allegations remains ongoing.

The Premier League referred City to an independent commission in February 2023 over alleged financial-rule breaches covering several seasons between 2009 and 2023. City have consistently denied wrongdoing.

Some of the allegations concern whether the club provided accurate financial information, including details of revenue, sponsorship income and operating costs.

The independent hearing began in September 2024 and ended in December of the same year. The case was heard by a three-member independent commission appointed through the Premier League’s judicial system.

The reported findings could lead to further legal and sporting proceedings, but no punishment has been announced at this stage.

Manchester City have faced financial-rule investigations before. In 2020, UEFA banned the club from European competitions for two years after finding that it had overstated sponsorship revenue. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned the ban after City appealed.

Since Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi United Group took control of the club in 2008, Manchester City have become one of the most successful teams in English football. The club have won eight Premier League titles and the Champions League, along with several domestic trophies.

City are currently top of the Premier League after winning their opening five matches of the season.
