Kigali, Rwanda, The National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) has announced the temporary suspension of Mobicash Rwanda Ltd’s operations for three months, citing persistent regulatory non-compliance. The notice, issued on January 29, 2026, was digitally signed by BNR Governor Soraya M. Hakuziyaremye.
Mobicash Rwanda Ltd is a fintech company offering a range of digital payment services, including money transfers and agency banking. Its platform enables users to carry out transactions such as bill payments and other essential financial services.
According to a public notice issued by BNR, the suspension was taken in line with Article 34(e) of Regulation No. 74/2023 governing Payment Service Providers. During this period, Mobicash Rwanda Ltd is prohibited from conducting any payment service activities or accepting new customer funds.
However, BNR reassured the public that existing Mobicash customers will retain full access to their funds. Customers will continue to make withdrawals or redemptions, with all transactions conducted under the supervision of BNR to ensure customer protection and orderly operations.
The central bank also encouraged customers to use other licensed payment service providers, noting that a complete list is available on BNR’s official website.
BNR emphasized that the suspension reflects its commitment to maintaining a secure, efficient, and trustworthy payment ecosystem in Rwanda, highlighting the regulator’s role in safeguarding financial stability and consumer interests.
