Netanyahu orders talks with Lebanon focused on disarming Hezbollah

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced that he has ordered the launch of talks with Lebanon, which will also address the issue of disarming the Hezbollah

Israel resumed attacks on Hezbollah, which operates in Lebanon, on March 2, after the Iran-backed group began firing into Israeli territory.

Since then, Israel has been carrying out strikes in both Iran and Lebanon simultaneously.

On April 9, 2026, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement indicating that Lebanon has repeatedly called for talks aimed at achieving lasting peace.

He said, “In response to Lebanon’s ongoing requests to engage in direct negotiations, I have instructed the government to begin talks with Lebanon as soon as possible. The discussions will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon.”

The Lebanese government reports that Israeli attacks have killed 1,700 people and displaced more than one million others.

According to Reuters, the strikes have also killed around 400 Hezbollah fighters.
