Rwanda and Pakistan are strengthening their economic partnership through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Trade, opening new opportunities for increased bilateral trade, investment and business cooperation.

At the Rwanda-Pakistan Investment Forum 2026, held on 24 September in Kigali, Rwanda, Trade Minister Tony Kajangwe and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Rwanda, H.E. Naeem Khan, showcased the MoU, which provides a framework for strengthening trade relations and expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement will facilitate trade, strengthen business-to-business partnerships and create opportunities for joint ventures across key sectors, including manufacturing, textiles and apparel, agriculture, tourism and transport.

Minister Tony Kajangwe highlighted the importance of building on the longstanding relationship between Rwanda and Pakistan and translating diplomatic ties into stronger commercial partnerships.

“The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding marks an important step in advancing economic cooperation between Rwanda and Pakistan. It provides a framework for expanding trade, advancing private sector engagement and creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries.”

Furthermore, H.E. Naeem Khan, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Rwanda, highlighted the strong potential for deeper economic cooperation, encouraging businesses from both countries to explore partnerships, joint ventures and new markets.

“Pakistan and Rwanda have complementary economies with significant potential for increased trade and investment. We encourage businesses from both countries to explore partnerships, joint ventures and new market opportunities that can contribute to shared growth and prosperity.”

Moreover, the forum highlighted promising opportunities across agriculture, manufacturing, textiles and apparel, pharmaceuticals, ICT, tourism and logistics, providing businesses and investors with a platform to identify new areas of cooperation.

In addition, the MoU establishes a framework for expanding bilateral trade, strengthening business partnerships and advancing cooperation across key sectors.

The agreement also provides for a Joint Working Group on Trade and a Joint Business Council, creating additional platforms for businesses and institutions from both countries to strengthen engagement, develop partnerships and identify new commercial opportunities.

As Rwanda and Pakistan strengthen their economic ties, the new framework is set to support deeper business cooperation, new market opportunities and increased trade and investment between the two countries.
