The commitment was made during the 16th three-day Border Forces Meeting, held from September 9 to 11, 2026, in Nyagatare District.
The Tanzanian delegation, led by Brig. Gen. Gabriel Elias Kwiligwa, was received by the Commander of Rwanda’s 5th Division, Maj. Gen. Ruki Karusisi. The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss border security and explore ways to further strengthen military cooperation.
Maj. Gen. Ruki Karusisi said the meeting reflects the strong friendship, trust and good relations between Rwanda and Tanzania.
He described the shared border as an important opportunity for the two countries to promote peace and security in the region. He urged the forces to strengthen relations, conduct joint training and maintain close cooperation to address potential security challenges.
Brig. Gen. Gabriel Elias Kwiligwa thanked Rwanda for the warm reception, saying the discussions demonstrated the high level of trust between the two countries’ military forces. He also commended the progress made in implementing previous agreements aimed at addressing shared security concerns.
Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening border security, enhancing military cooperation and protecting communities living in border areas.
As part of the meeting, the two delegations also visited the Inyange Milk Powder Plant in Nyagatare District. The district leadership, led by Mayor Henry Kakooza, briefed the visiting officers on the plant’s operations, distribution of its products and its contribution to the socio-economic development of local communities.
