On 30 April, officers from the Rwanda Defence Force, Rwanda National Police, and Rwanda Correctional Service, including 74 graduates in total, completed the Junior Command and Staff Course at the RDF Command and Staff College, marking another step in Rwanda’s continued efforts to strengthen a skilled and professional security force.
The Junior Command and Staff Course, attended by the 26th intake over a 22-week programme, equipped the officers with the knowledge and skills required to undertake tactical command responsibilities up to Brigade level, as well as to effectively perform military staff functions, according to the Ministry of Defence.
The graduation ceremony took place at Nyakinama, at the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College (RDFCSC), located in Musanze District, Northern Province, and was presided over by the Chief of Defence Staff, Mubarakh Muganga. Addressing the graduates, He praised their commitment and discipline throughout the course and stressed the importance of upholding the values of integrity, patriotism, and accountability in their service.
He observed that the course had equipped the officers with the skills to become proactive and solution-oriented leaders, noting that they are encouraged to take on greater responsibilities and contribute to strengthening the defence force and serving the nation.
Among the top performers, Maj Alain Kirenga was named the best overall student, followed by Capt Orice Kayiranga, while Maj Angelo Birasa secured third place. Maj James Tindifa Hodali was recognised for producing the best command research paper.

Moreover,Brig Gen Andrew Nyamvumba, Commandant of the RDF Command and Staff College, mentioned that all participants met the required standards, noting that the training prepares officers for both national duties and wider regional and international responsibilities.
The ceremony, attended by senior officials and families of the graduates, reflected the continued commitment to developing capable leaders ready to serve and protect the nation. It also highlighted the importance of ongoing professional training in strengthening leadership and improving the effectiveness of the country’s security institutions.
