Rwanda, This week, the National Coordination Team (NCT) for the Green Climate Fund (GCF), operating under the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) in its capacity as the National Designated Authority (NDA), is conducting an extensive field visit to monitor ongoing climate adaptation initiatives.
In particular, the team visited intervention areas under the Transforming Eastern Province through Adaptation (TREPA) project. These sites included a breed seed orchard, agroforestry plantations, and silvopastoral systems in Nyagatare District. In addition, the delegation toured Private Forest Management Units (PFMU) located in Gatsibo District according to REMA.

The visit aims not only to assess the implementation progress of GCF-funded projects but also to evaluate their tangible impact on local communities. Additionally, the team is engaging directly with implementing partners and beneficiaries on the ground to gather practical insights, identify challenges, and document lessons learned.
Moreover, the field visit plays a crucial role in reinforcing effective oversight and promoting accountability in the management of climate finance. By closely monitoring performance and assessing results on the ground, the National Coordination Team aims to generate valuable insights that will guide future climate investments and strengthen adaptation strategies across the country.
Through initiatives such as agroforestry expansion, improved seed systems, and sustainable land management practices, the TREPA project continues to promote ecosystem restoration while simultaneously improving livelihoods. Consequently, communities in the Eastern Province are becoming more resilient to the growing threats posed by climate change.
Ultimately, the field assessment reflects Rwanda’s broader commitment to translating international climate finance into measurable environmental and socio-economic benefits. As climate challenges intensify, coordinated monitoring and evidence-based planning remain critical to securing sustainable development outcomes.
