Turkey is evaluating potential measures in case tensions between Iran and the United States escalate into conflict, a Turkish diplomatic source told Reuters on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, Ankara is assessing “all aspects” of possible steps that may be required if a negative development occurs between the two countries. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said all scenarios are being considered to ensure the safety of Turkish citizens.

Negotiations between Washington and Tehran resumed earlier this month as the US increases its military presence in the Middle East. Iran has warned it could strike American bases in the region if attacked. However, Tehran’s top diplomat recently stated that a deal remains “within reach” if diplomacy is prioritised.

As a NATO member sharing a border with Iran, Turkey has consistently opposed military intervention and called for diplomatic solutions. Ankara has been in contact with both sides in an effort to reduce tensions and prevent regional destabilisation.

The diplomatic source stressed that any action violating Iran’s sovereignty is “out of the question.” The official did not specify what concrete measures are under consideration.

Earlier, Turkey’s presidency office for countering disinformation denied reports suggesting Ankara was planning to enter Iranian territory to prevent a possible refugee influx.

The situation remains fluid as diplomatic efforts continue between Iran and the United States, with regional powers closely monitoring developments.
