Following the strikes, US President Donald Trump warned that Iran would face “severe” consequences if it continued retaliatory actions against American interests.
The IRGC, however, warned that the United States would regret its actions. Iranian media reported that missile and drone attacks had targeted US military positions and facilities linked to American interests across the region.
The latest strikes followed an earlier US attack on Iranian military positions on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran subsequently retaliated by launching missiles at a US air base in Jordan.
Regional officials also reported that a projectile struck near Sirik in southern Iran, killing two people and injuring others who were attending a wedding. Additional reports indicated that explosions or strikes were recorded in areas including Chabahar, Konarak, Jiroft Airport, Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas.
The escalation comes after the United States and Israel carried out a series of attacks against Iran. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, US military positions and other countries in the region.
Iran has also disrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for the transportation of oil and other energy supplies.
The latest exchange of attacks has raised fears of a wider regional conflict, with the United States, Israel and Iran continuing to threaten further military action while tensions around the strategic waterway remain high.
