Rwanda positions itself as a leading sports destination ahead of the continental volleyball event.

Today, April 21, a press briefing was held at BK Arena officially outlining Rwanda’s readiness to host the upcoming CAVB Men’s Club Championship 2026, one of the continent’s most prestigious volleyball competitions.

The 47th edition of the championship will bring together elite men’s volleyball clubs from across Africa. The tournament is scheduled to run from April 22 to May 3, 2026, and is expected to strengthen further Rwanda’s growing reputation as a host of major international sporting events.

The Director General in charge of Sports Development at the Ministry of Sports, Gilbert Muvunyi Manier, said Rwanda is well prepared to host the championship and highlighted the country’s commitment to hosting major sporting events. He also noted that the African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship is a welcome event that will help motivate young people to develop and pursue their talents in sports.

Speaking during the briefing, the President of the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB), Ngarambe Raphaël, expressed confidence in the country’s readiness and ambition to deliver a successful event.

“Rwanda is pleased to host this tournament. We must succeed in welcoming our guests and also perform well on the court,” he said.

He added that Rwanda views the championship as both an organizational opportunity and a chance to showcase its competitive strength in volleyball.

In addition, Rwanda will be represented by four strong local clubs, APR VC, Kepler VC, Police VC, and REG VC, set to compete against some of the leading teams on the continent.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), Louis Rwakiranya, praised Rwanda’s preparedness and highlighted the country’s stability and leadership.

“Volleyball is now being hosted in Rwanda, a united country with a clear vision and strong leadership.” He stated.

Initially, 39 teams applied for participation, with 30 meeting the required standards before the final selection of 24 clubs was confirmed.

The organizers emphasized that the group-based format will ensure a highly competitive and well-structured championship, while also reinforcing Rwanda’s position as a leading destination for international sports in Africa.
