Kim Jong Un reconfirmed by the parliament as North Korea’s President

The Parliament of North Korea has once again confirmed Kim Jong Un as President of the country

This was reported by the state news agency, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), which stated that Kim Jong Un was approved during a session of the country’s parliament, known as the Supreme People’s Assembly.

The vote took place on March 22, 2026, about a month after Kim Jong Un was re-elected as General Secretary of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea.

The Supreme People’s Assembly functions as North Korea’s parliament, responsible for passing and approving laws, the national budget, and top leaders, including the head of state.

It typically convenes after the congress of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea to formalize the party’s decisions into law.

On the first day of its 15th session, Kim Jong Un was immediately re-elected to lead the country.

Reports indicate that his reappointment as President was intended to reflect the wishes of citizens who want him to continue leading them.

Kim Jong Un has been in power since December 2011, following the death of his father, Kim Jong-il. It is also reported that he may eventually be succeeded by his daughter, Kim Ju Ae.
