Kenya’s Sebastian Sawe makes history with sub-two-hour marathon at London Marathon

Kenyan athlete Sebastian Sawe, who competes in long-distance running, made history by completing the 42-kilometer marathon in under two hours.

He achieved this on Sunday, April 26, 2026, during the London Marathon, one of the world’s most prestigious long-distance races.

The race attracted more than 59,000 participants and was attended by notable figures including Sebastian Vettel and Samantha Spiro, among others.

This was the 46th edition of the race, covering a distance of 42.2 kilometers, with participants ranging from professional athletes to recreational runners.

Among the top performers of the day was Sebastian Sawe from Kenya, who finished in 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds. He was followed by Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia, who completed the race in 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 41 seconds. In third place was Jacob Kiplimo, who finished in 2 hours and 28 seconds.

Sebastian Sawe, who also won the race in 2025, already held the record for the fastest finish in this competition
