World-renowned musician John Legend has been appointed as one of five members of the Board of Directors of Global Citizen, the international organization known for organizing initiatives such as the “Move Afrika” festival held in Kigali, where he previously performed.
Evans described Legend’s appointment to the board as a major step that will help the organization continue expanding its efforts to improve global living conditions and fight extreme poverty.
He said, “John Legend has long been a strong partner of Global Citizen. His joining the board is another step that reflects his commitment to the organization’s mission.”
John Legend is one of the world’s most recognized artists and is widely known not only for his music career but also for his humanitarian work and advocacy for human rights.
In 2025, he performed in Kigali during the “Move Afrika” concert organized by Global Citizen and its partners.
After being appointed to the board, the Grammy, Oscar, and Emmy award-winning artist said he was honored to take on the new role and pledged to continue using his platform to support disadvantaged communities.
He stated, “It is a great honor for me to become a member of Global Citizen’s Board of Directors. It is an opportunity to continue supporting initiatives that aim to transform the lives of many people around the world, especially young people.”
Global Citizen is known for organizing major global campaigns that bring together artists, political leaders, and investors to seek solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges.
John Legend joins other board members including Avie Glazer, Mariam AlMheiri, Omar Al-joulani, and Ankur Jain.
Global Citizen’s European board is chaired by Sabrina Dhowre Elba.
Other members of the European board include former Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, Steve Hill, Zoisa North-Bond, Friederike Röder, former Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, and Joe Cerrell.
