President Paul Kagame has congratulated Arsenal FC following their 1-0 victory over Atlético Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.
The win confirmed Arsenal’s place in the final of Europe’s most prestigious club competition after a closely contested tie between the two sides.
Bukayo Saka’s first-half goal proved crucial in London, giving Arsenal a 2-1 aggregate triumph. The English side had earlier secured a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Madrid, which helped them edge the Spanish club over two legs.
Reacting to X, President Kagame commended both teams for their strong performances, noting that Arsenal and Atlético Madrid are partners under the Visit Rwanda initiative. He described the match as a competitive and high-quality encounter.
He went on to congratulate Arsenal for reaching the final, adding: “May the best Visit Rwanda partner team win,” in reference to the continued involvement of partner clubs in the competition.
Arsenal’s qualification sets up a highly anticipated final as attention now turns to the second semi-final. Paris Saint-Germain, another Visit Rwanda partner, is set to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, holding a 5-4 advantage from the first leg.
The outcome of that tie will determine Arsenal’s opponent in the final, as excitement builds toward the conclusion of this season’s Champions League campaign.
