Rwanda to host Global NAP Expo 2026 to advance climate adaptation planning

Global climate leaders will meet in Rwanda for NAP Expo 2026 to enhance resilience.

Rwanda is set to host the National Adaptation Plan Expo (NAP Expo) from May 18–21, 2026, bringing together more than 200 participants from around the world to strengthen global efforts in climate adaptation planning and resilience building.

The international event, organized under the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will serve as a platform for governments, experts, development partners, civil society organizations, researchers, and climate stakeholders to exchange experiences and explore solutions aimed at advancing National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).

Hosted in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Rwanda, and the Least Developed Countries Expert Group, the expo is expected to highlight innovative approaches to addressing the growing impacts of climate change, particularly in vulnerable countries and communities.

According to REMA, the NAP Expo is an annual outreach initiative designed to promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and partnerships among Party and non-Party stakeholders working on climate adaptation. The expo focuses on supporting countries in developing and implementing effective National Adaptation Plans that strengthen resilience against climate-related challenges such as droughts, floods, food insecurity, biodiversity loss, and extreme weather events.

National Adaptation Plans are strategic frameworks that help countries identify medium- and long-term adaptation needs while integrating climate resilience into national policies, development planning, and investment priorities.

The upcoming gathering in Rwanda is expected to provide an opportunity for participants to discuss financing mechanisms, technological innovation, capacity building, and policy implementation strategies aimed at accelerating adaptation action globally.

Hosting the expo further reinforces Rwanda’s growing role in climate leadership and environmental sustainability on the African continent. Over the years, the country has gained international recognition for promoting green growth initiatives, environmental conservation policies, climate-resilient development strategies, and clean energy transitions.

The event is also expected to create opportunities for networking and collaboration between governments, international organizations, youth advocates, researchers, and private sector actors committed to climate action.

The NAP Expo 2026 comes at a time when countries across the globe are increasingly facing the effects of climate change and are seeking stronger adaptation measures to protect livelihoods, ecosystems, and sustainable development goals.
