President Macron made the announcement on Monday, May 11, 2026, in Nairobi during the Africa-France summit aimed at reshaping relations and cooperation between the two sides.
The French leader said the investment will target sectors such as energy, technology — particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), maritime transport, and agriculture.
He noted that the investment is expected to create more than 250 jobs in both Africa and France.
“We are not here only to invest money in Africa, but we also want African investors to come and invest in France,” Macron said.
President Macron added that France no longer views Africa as its “backyard,” but instead prioritizes a partnership based on mutual respect and shared benefits.
The remarks come at a time when relations between France and several African countries it once colonized, especially in the Sahel region, have continued to deteriorate.
