President Paul Kagame has concluded his working visit to Qatar following high-level discussions aimed at strengthening relations between Rwanda and Qatar.
The visit came to a close on Monday morning, May 25, 2026, as the delegation departed. Upon departure, they were accompanied by Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, together with Rwanda’s Ambassador to Qatar, Igor Marara Kayinamura.
President Kagame arrived in Doha on Sunday, May 24, 2026, for a working visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation.
At the point of arrival, He was welcomed by Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi.
During the visit, President Kagame held talks with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Amiri Diwan. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The talks covered key areas including investment, aviation, infrastructure development, finance, and security. Both leaders welcomed progress in existing partnerships and expressed commitment to further cooperation.
According to the Office of the President, the two leaders also discussed regional and international issues, reaffirming their shared commitment to peace and stability. President Kagame also expressed Rwanda’s continued support and solidarity with Qatar.
Rwanda and Qatar continue to maintain strong relations, especially in aviation and infrastructure development. Key projects include Qatar Airways’ investment in RwandAir and the development of the New Kigali International Airport in Bugesera.
The Emir of Qatar’s visit to Rwanda in 2025 further strengthened bilateral relations.
President Kagame’s visit highlights the continued growth of Rwanda–Qatar relations and both countries’ commitment to long-term cooperation.
