Implemented through a partnership between the RDF, the Police and local communities, the projects include the construction of public infrastructure, provision of medical services, housing for vulnerable families and distribution of livestock, all aimed at improving the welfare of Rwandans.
The projects will be officially inaugurated on July 4, 2026, Rwanda’s Liberation Day. In the Southern Province, a new school has been built in Rugarika Sector, while a medical outreach program led by RDF doctors will conclude at Munini Hospital in Nyaruguru District.
Also in the Southern Province, houses constructed for vulnerable families in Muganza Sector, Gisagara District, will be officially handed over.
Rwanda National Police spokesperson ACP Boniface Rutikanga said the houses were built using a modern design, with each building accommodating two families.
“Each house is designed as two units in one building. This means that the 80 houses constructed will provide homes for 160 families,” he said.
In the Eastern Province, additional houses for vulnerable families will be inaugurated in Kayonza District, while livestock will be distributed to residents of Nyamugari Sector in Kirehe District.
In the Northern Province, newly built houses in Murambi Sector, Rulindo District, will be handed over, alongside a newly constructed bridge in Gakenke District and homes built for vulnerable families and residents displaced by natural disasters.
More houses constructed through the joint efforts of the RDF, the Police and local communities will also be inaugurated in Bigogwe Sector, Nyabihu District.
In the Western Province, a new passenger boat will be commissioned in Nyamasheke District to improve transportation for residents of both Nyamasheke and neighboring Rusizi District.
ACP Rutikanga said the launch ceremony will take place in Nyamasheke, although boats have also been allocated to Rusizi and other parts of Nyamasheke to improve water transport.
“The official launch will be held in Nyamasheke, but one boat has been designated for Rusizi and another will serve Nyamasheke,” he said.
In the City of Kigali, newly constructed classrooms in Gasabo District, in the area known as Rwankuba, will also be officially inaugurated.
Another initiative focuses on supporting young people organized into groups known as Imboni z’Impinduka (Agents of Change). The program targets youth who were previously affected by challenges such as alcohol abuse, prostitution, drug use and other social problems, helping them become self-reliant through income-generating projects.
RDF spokesperson Lt Col Simon Kabera said the projects, valued at more than RWF 2.7 billion, reflect the combined contributions of the RDF, the Police and local communities, emphasizing that this partnership remains a key driver of community development.
“The work is carried out jointly by local residents, soldiers and police officers. This means that community members who participate in these projects also benefit through employment opportunities, helping reduce unemployment,” he said.
He added that providing livestock has long-term economic benefits for families.
“When you give a family a cow, it produces milk and manure that improves agricultural productivity. While we may not farm ourselves, we buy food from the market. When we pay taxes and those resources return to support communities, that is our reward,” Lt Col Kabera said.
