KYIV, Ukraine, At least 11 people have been killed and dozens injured after Russia launched a massive overnight wave of missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, with Kyiv suffering the heaviest impact in the latest attacks, just days ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye, scheduled for July 7–8, 2026, as authorities reported widespread damage to residential buildings and emergency teams continued rescue operations.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia fired 68 missiles and 351 drones during the overnight bombardment, triggering air raid sirens across the country and forcing thousands of civilians into shelters, according to Al Jazeera.
Authorities reported damage to at least 15 residential buildings, including several in Kyiv’s historic Podil district. Emergency responders remain at multiple strike sites, warning that the number of casualties could increase as rescue efforts continue.
The attack came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that intelligence reports pointed to another large-scale Russian offensive ahead of the NATO summit, where he is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump.
The latest assault follows another deadly strike on Kyiv last week that claimed 31 lives, underscoring an escalation in Russia’s campaign of long-range missile and drone attacks.
Meanwhile, Russian-installed authorities in occupied Crimea said a Ukrainian strike near Sevastopol temporarily disrupted electricity supplies after damaging energy infrastructure.
The war between Russia and Ukraine continues to intensify, with both countries increasingly relying on long-range weapons as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain stalled.
