Egypt and Serbia are strengthening their healthcare cooperation as both countries move closer to signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding collaboration in digital health, medical technology, and healthcare development.
The agreement will cover a range of priority areas, including the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare, digital medical records, pharmaceutical production, medical tourism, healthcare technology exchange, and professional skills development, according to Daily News Egypt.
In talks held in Cairo, Egypt, and Serbia discussed ways to develop a long-term healthcare partnership that will encourage expertise sharing, strengthen institutions, and support innovation.
Under the proposed framework, the two countries will work together to advance digital healthcare solutions, improve hospital management systems, and support cooperation in medical education, nursing training, and professional development.
In addition, Egypt will benefit from Serbia’s expertise in areas such as rehabilitation services and healthcare delivery, while the partnership will create opportunities for sharing technical knowledge and developing modern healthcare practices.
The cooperation comes as Egypt continues implementing its Universal Health Insurance System, which seeks to expand access to quality healthcare services and improve the country’s medical infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Egypt also presented its progress in digital healthcare, highlighting the Virtual Hospital in Ismailia, which uses advanced technology to provide specialised medical services and improve healthcare access.
Furthermore, the partnership is expected to contribute to broader healthcare development efforts in Africa by supporting innovation, strengthening medical capacity and encouraging collaboration between African institutions and international partners.
Ambassador of Serbia to Egypt, Miroslav Šestović, praised Egypt’s healthcare transformation efforts and reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to expanding cooperation in medical technology, pharmaceutical production and healthcare investment.
Moreover, he noted that stronger cooperation between the two countries could open new opportunities for economic partnerships while creating practical solutions to improve healthcare services.
As preparations for the MoU continue, Egypt and Serbia have reaffirmed their commitment to launching joint projects that will enhance healthcare innovation, promote knowledge sharing, and strengthen bilateral relations.
