Ukrainian and U.S. officials said they are refining a new set of proposals to present to Russia, with the initial goal of securing a halt to aerial attacks.
President Volodymyr Zelensky recently held talks with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump involved in the mediation efforts. They informed him that the White House is drafting a new document that will serve as the basis for the next round of negotiations.
The envoys are expected to travel to Russia in late July or early August after coordinating their position with Ukraine.
Trump and Zelensky are also expected to meet to discuss the next phase of the mediation process and the possibility of arranging direct talks between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The United States believes Russia may be willing to agree to a temporary suspension of air strikes, as Ukraine has continued carrying out long-range attacks deep inside Russian territory.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia remains ready for negotiations, although Ukraine continues to question Moscow’s willingness to agree to a lasting end to the war.
