According to Meteo Rwanda, rainfall across the country is expected to range between 5 mm and 100 mm during August, which is below the average amount normally recorded for the month.
In its August 2026 monthly weather outlook, the agency said maximum daytime temperatures will range between 21°C and 32°C, while nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to be between 10°C and 18°C.
Meteo Rwanda also noted that moderate winds are expected throughout the month, with occasional strong winds reaching speeds of between 4 and 12 metres per second.
The forecast follows a relatively dry July 2026, during which much of the country received below-average rainfall. Of the country’s 44 rainfall monitoring stations, 29 recorded precipitation levels below the long-term average for July.
Rainfall recorded during July ranged from 0.5 mm to 96.6 mm. The highest amount was measured at the Busogo ISAE weather station in Musanze District, where 96.6 mm of rain fell. The lowest rainfall, 0.5 mm, was recorded at the Nyagatare and Kansi weather stations in Gisagara District.
Regarding temperatures in July, Meteo Rwanda reported that average maximum temperatures ranged from 21.1°C in Kinigi, Musanze District, to 32.8°C in Bugarama, Rusizi District.
The agency expects August temperatures to be slightly above the long-term average for the month.
These weather conditions are likely to affect soil moisture and water availability as Rwanda remains in its dry season. Meteo Rwanda forecasts that soil moisture will continue to decline across most parts of the country throughout August, as the dry season, which runs from June to August, persists.
In agriculture, the limited rainfall experienced in July helped facilitate the harvesting and post-harvest handling of Season B crops. However, it also negatively affected Season C farming activities due to declining soil moisture levels.
Meteo Rwanda expects sunny conditions to persist across most parts of the country in August, which could further reduce water availability and affect agricultural activities during Season C.
The agency advised the public to use the monthly forecast together with its six-hourly, daily, five-day, seven-day and ten-day weather forecasts to stay informed with the latest weather updates.
