The Washington Post reported that the threat against Trump prompted authorities to put in place an unusual security operation last month as he prepared to leave Turkey after attending a NATO summit.
While the White House had announced that Trump was travelling aboard Air Force One, the aircraft normally used by the US president, information later emerged indicating that he had secretly been moved onto another military aircraft.
According to The Washington Post, Trump’s departure was carefully arranged to conceal the aircraft he was travelling on and the details of how he would leave Turkey. The measures were intended to reduce the risk of potential attackers discovering his location or identifying the aircraft carrying him.
The newspaper reported that the extraordinary security measures were prompted by intelligence indicating that Iran may have been planning to assassinate Trump.
This means that information publicly provided by the White House did not match the actual arrangements made for the president’s departure.
The White House had said Trump left the NATO summit aboard Air Force One. However, reliable information indicates that he was instead transported on another military aircraft as part of a secret security arrangement.
The operation was primarily designed to conceal Trump’s whereabouts and protect him from a potential threat to his life as he departed Turkey and returned to the United States.
Details of Trump’s secret use of another military aircraft emerged later, while the White House had continued to publicly indicate that the president was travelling aboard Air Force One.
