Adidas shares rise after Sebastian Sawe breaks sub-2-hour marathon barrier in London

Shares of Adidas, a company that manufactures sportswear and equipment, rose by 1.5% after Kenyan athlete Sebastian Sawe made history by completing the 42-kilometer marathon in under two hours while wearing its shoes.

He achieved this on Sunday, April 26, 2026, during the London Marathon, one of the most prestigious long-distance races in the world.

After setting this record, one of the key factors behind his success was the high-quality shoes he used, which provided comfort and were specially designed for long-distance runners.

He wore the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, which costs $500 (approximately 733,000 RWF), and not only won the London Marathon but also set a new record time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds.

After describing the shoes as “lightweight and offering great freedom,” Adidas announced on Monday morning, April 27, 2026, that its shares had increased by 1.5%, strengthening its competition with companies like Puma and Nike.

The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 weighs just 97 grams, which is 30% lighter than its predecessor, the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1.

The same model was also worn by Ethiopian athletes Yomif Kejelcha and Tigst Assefa, who won the women’s race.
