The suspect, identified as Jeanine John Taele, was taken into custody on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, near Los Angeles.
Authorities said the man drew attention after he was seen walking around the golf course, taking photographs and recording videos while closely observing security preparations ahead of Trump’s planned visit.
When security officers confronted and searched him, they found 16 rounds of ammunition in his pants pocket. A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun along with additional ammunition.
Given the proximity of President Trump’s scheduled visit, law enforcement treated the incident as a potential security concern. Officers from the FBI, including its counterterrorism unit, joined the investigation and later searched the suspect’s residence in Downey, a city southeast of Los Angeles.
Investigators are working to determine the suspect’s motives and whether he posed a direct threat to the president or anyone else at the golf course.
The case has since been handed over to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine what criminal charges, if any, should be filed against the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
