BYD unveils high-performance electric sports car ‘Denza Z’

Chinese automaker BYD has unveiled a new convertible electric sports car called Denza Z.

The vehicle belongs to BYD’s premium Denza lineup and was showcased for the first time at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.

The car is designed to compete with well-known European sports car brands such as Porsche and Maserati, while also targeting international buyers.

Instead of using a single large gasoline or diesel engine like conventional cars, the Denza Z is powered by a three-motor electric system.

The three motors distribute power to all four wheels, meaning each wheel actively contributes to driving and controlling the car. In many ordinary vehicles, only the front or rear wheels provide power.

This setup allows the vehicle to produce more than 1,000 horsepower.

Thanks to this power, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under two seconds.

Despite its extreme performance, the car was also designed for comfortable everyday use, made possible by advanced battery technology.

Although it delivers enormous power, the battery is designed to provide efficient daily driving without quickly running out of charge. Drivers can comfortably use it for routine trips such as commuting or shopping without worrying about battery depletion.

The battery can accept ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 1,500 kilowatts, enabling it to recharge to 80% capacity in just nine minutes.

To improve handling and cornering performance, engineers equipped the car with an advanced smart suspension system.

The technology uses cameras to scan the road ahead and instantly adjusts the vehicle’s suspension to maintain stability and smooth driving.

The Denza Z seats four passengers. When the convertible roof is opened, it automatically folds into the rear luggage compartment.

The car’s design was created by a former chief designer at Audi.

The model displayed in Beijing featured a green exterior, complemented by white and yellow interior accents. After its unveiling in Beijing, the car is expected to demonstrate its driving capabilities during an event scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom in July this year.

The official price of the Denza Z has not yet been announced. However, reports from the 2026 Beijing Auto Show and other sources suggest the vehicle could cost between $58,000 and $120,000 depending on the market or country where it will be sold.

The car has not yet been released to the general market.
