Ecofleet to launch electric shuttle service connecting Kigali City and Airport

Ecofleet Solutions, a public transport operator, is set to introduce a new service to transport passengers to and from Kigali International Airport.

The initiative is currently under study to determine the best way to implement it before its official launch.

Once operational, the service will have two main routes. One will head toward Nyarutarama, while the other will connect to central Kigali, particularly serving major hotels in the city.

The buses to be used will be electric, as part of efforts to reduce emissions from fuel-powered vehicles and promote environmentally friendly transport.

Havugimana Aldo, the Communications and Public Relations Officer at Ecofleet, explained that the service will operate according to flight schedules. This means that passengers staying at hotels will be transported to the airport in time for their departures, and arrivals will also be picked up and taken to their respective hotels.

He said, “The service will pick up passengers and take them to various hotels or collect them from hotels and transport them to the airport, considering that there are also people heading to Kanombe who do not necessarily enter the airport.”

He added, “This is a way to make travel easier and more affordable for air passengers, promote the use of public transport in Kigali, and reduce the number of vehicles in the city, especially since they contribute to air pollution. The buses we will use are electric.”

Ecofleet also noted that while passengers currently rely on private vehicles or hotel transport to reach their destinations from the airport, they will soon have the option to use buses, which are expected to lower travel costs.

The introduction of this service will not replace existing transport options to and from the airport. Instead, Ecofleet’s buses will complement them, giving travelers more choices.

Havugimana emphasized, “The aim is not to eliminate existing services. Hotels already have their own transport systems, and other operators also provide passenger transport. Everyone will have options, and authorities have not announced any plan to replace current services.”
