The announcement was made on May 6, 2026, by Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei.
“Once the proposals are fully reviewed and refined, Iran will communicate its position through Pakistan,” he said.
The statement came after U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier on May 6 that the conflict could end quickly if Iran accepted Washington’s conditions.
“Let’s imagine Iran agrees to what we proposed — although that is a major assumption, this historic war could immediately come to an end, and the Strait of Hormuz would reopen for all sides, including Iran,” Trump said.
This follows reports that Iran recently submitted 14 new conditions to the United States as part of efforts to negotiate a ceasefire agreement.
For now, both sides are reportedly focusing on less complex issues aimed at halting the fighting and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, while more sensitive matters such as Iran’s nuclear weapons program are expected to be discussed later.
However, Trump indicated there are currently no immediate plans for direct talks between the two countries. The latest proposals are instead being exchanged through Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator.
Iran had earlier stated that it had no plans to participate in further negotiations with the United States after previous talks failed to produce results. On April 24, 2026, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, traveled to Islamabad but declined to attend scheduled discussions.
Araqchi had been expected to meet with Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, but Iran refused to take part, prompting Trump to cancel the visit of his envoys.
The conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran began on February 28, 2026, when U.S. strikes inside Iran reportedly killed senior officials attending a meeting in Tehran, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
One of the most significant consequences of the conflict has been the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran. Around 20% of the world’s oil shipments pass through the strategic waterway.
