Israeli political commentator Ori Goldberg said the continuation of the war benefits Netanyahu politically by shifting national attention away from his ongoing corruption trial and presenting him as a central figure during a time of crisis.
As reported by Al Jazeera, Goldberg argued that the Israeli leader has managed to maintain an image of stability and authority despite growing criticism from sections of the Israeli public.
According to Goldberg, many Israelis may not fully support Netanyahu personally, but still view him as the political figure most capable of steering the country during a volatile period. He suggested that the wartime atmosphere has helped reinforce Netanyahu’s position as the default choice for leadership.
Goldberg also noted that support for the military campaign extends beyond Netanyahu’s coalition government, with much of Israel’s broader political establishment including opposition figures backing the current war approach.
He added that calls for peace negotiations or diplomatic engagement remain largely absent from mainstream Israeli politics, as politicians seeking wider influence avoid positions that could be perceived as weakening national security during wartime.
The comments come amid continued regional tensions and expanding military operations that have drawn international concern over the humanitarian impact in both Gaza and southern Lebanon.
