Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva has handed over 30 newly built houses to vulnerable families in Nyabihu District, praising the close partnership between citizens and Rwanda’s security institutions in improving people’s livelihoods.
Prime Minister Nsengiyumva commended the country’s security institutions for their dedication throughout the programme, saying they had worked tirelessly to improve the welfare of citizens.
“The houses we are inaugurating today, together with the many other projects completed under this programme, are proof that the partnership between security institutions and citizens is a strong pillar on which our country’s security is built,” he said.
He noted that although the programme covered many sectors, its greatest achievement was bringing security institutions closer to communities and helping address challenges affecting people’s daily lives.
“Across the country, citizens received medical services, access to clean water, and irrigation equipment. Bridges were constructed, boats were provided to improve transportation and trade, livestock was distributed, cooperatives were supported, classrooms were built, and homes—including the ones we are inaugurating today here in Nyabihu—were constructed,” he added.
The Prime Minister reminded residents that national security extends beyond the absence of war, stressing that true security means ensuring that no threat can disrupt the peace, safety, property, or well-being of Rwandans.
He also urged citizens to remember that Rwanda’s progress and stability were made possible through the courage and patriotism of the men and women of the former RPA, many of whom sacrificed their lives to secure the country’s peace.
Nsengiyumva encouraged the beneficiary families to take good care of their new homes, preserve them, and continue working to improve their own livelihoods while contributing to the country’s development.
One of the beneficiaries, 80-year-old Esther Nyiramutuzo, expressed her gratitude.
“I never had a place I could call my own. I had been living in rented accommodation, but now I have been given a house. My life has completely changed because I also received household items and food. May President Kagame continue to lead the country,” she said.
Every year, the Rwanda Defence Force and Rwanda National Police, in partnership with other institutions, implement community development initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of citizens through various projects and forms of assistance.
During this year’s programme, 28,582 people received medical treatment, 80 houses for vulnerable families were built and equipped with essential household items, two classrooms and two bridges were constructed, clean water was extended to communities, two boats and 10 irrigation machines were distributed, while six cows and 910 goats were provided to beneficiaries.
The programme also included environmental conservation campaigns and community work activities worth RWF 12 million, creating employment opportunities for more than 1,000 people.
