DTC Botswana is a 50/50 joint venture between the Government of Botswana and De Beers one of the world’s leading diamond companies.
The facility is regarded as the world’s largest and most sophisticated rough diamond sorting and valuation operation, with the capacity to sort up to 45 million carats of diamonds annually.
During the visit, President Kagame was given a tour of the company’s operations and learned more about Botswana’s diamond value chain, which has played a major role in the country’s economic growth and industrial development.
The visit comes as Rwanda and Botswana continue strengthening bilateral cooperation in key sectors including trade, investment, and economic development.
Earlier this week, the two countries signed several cooperation agreements covering areas such as trade, air transport, investment promotion, and visa-free travel for citizens of both nations.
President Kagame’s visit to DTC Botswana also highlights the growing interest among African countries in leveraging natural resources through local value addition and industrial transformation rather than exporting raw materials abroad.
