Russian President Vladimir Putin said a peace agreement with Ukraine remains possible, while Kyiv signaled renewed diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum, Putin said the United States, China and other countries were prepared to support a settlement, but maintained that Russia and Ukraine would ultimately have to resolve the conflict.
“Ultimately, however, the problem must be resolved by the countries involved in the conflict , Russia and Ukraine,” he noted.
“We are grateful to everyone attempting to contribute to a settlement. Is there a chance? In my view, yes, there is.”
Putin also said continued attacks and aviation-related security concerns could hinder efforts to resume peace talks. However, he said communication between Moscow and Kyiv remained open through intelligence channels, keeping a possible avenue for dialogue.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Kyiv expects a new phase of political and diplomatic engagement involving several countries.
“I believe that we will now have a new dynamic in the peace efforts, with the return of this active phase of political and diplomatic engagement in many capitals around the world.” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha told reporters in Kyiv.
The latest statements suggest renewed diplomatic activity, although neither side announced a concrete breakthrough toward a peace agreement.
