RwandAir has unveiled RISE (RwandAir Inspiring Success & Excellence), a first-of-its-kind Graduate Development Programme designed to fast-track the careers of Africa’s emerging aviation professionals. Announced via the airline’s official channels, the initiative reflects Rwanda’s commitment to building local talent capable of leading the continent’s rapidly expanding aviation industry.
The 24-month programme offers structured rotations across RwandAir’s core business units—including Human Resources, Information Technology, Finance, Operations, Engineering, and Commercial—giving participants hands-on experience and cross-functional exposure. Guided by dedicated mentorship, graduates gain practical skills and leadership training, preparing them to transition into impactful mid-career roles within the airline.

Over the next 20 years, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) projects that Africa’s aviation sector will grow 4.1% annually, reaching 411 million passengers—the world’s third-fastest growth rate. For Rwanda, whose national carrier was recently named 2025 Best Regional Airline in Africa, developing aviation professionals is both a strategic and economic priority.
“RISE equips recent graduates and young business professionals with the skills and experience needed to obtain mid-career roles aligned with their strengths and interests. Echoing this vision, RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo highlighted the importance of connectivity. “Our focus is to connect Rwanda to the rest of the African continent and to the rest of the world… We believe this continent has a lot of untapped potential and, given that road and rail networks are pretty much nonexistent across the continent, air connectivity plays a key role.”

With the New Kigali International Airport in Bugesera rapidly advancing, Rwanda is preparing to accommodate higher passenger volumes, larger aircraft, and expanded air services. Addressing the Parliament last month, Finance Minister Yusuf Murangwa confirmed that strategic financing and concessional loans ensure the airport’s Phase II development continues on schedule, highlighting the importance of a workforce ready to operate in an increasingly sophisticated aviation environment.
