The matches involving Europe’s top-performing domestic clubs were played at various venues on Tuesday night, October 13, 2026.
The match that attracted particular attention from Rwandan fans featured Azerbaijan’s Sabah Baku, which has Rwanda national team striker Joy-Lance Mickels in its squad. The fixture marked his second appearance in the competition.
Facing Czech side SK Slavia Prague, Mickels made history by becoming the first Rwandan player to score in the UEFA Champions League.
After several attempts to find the net during the match, Mickels scored in the 88th minute, adding to Kaheem Parris’s goal in the 49th minute to secure Sabah’s first three points in the League Phase.
Mickels, who was also named Player of the Match, thanked his teammates for helping him achieve an award he had long dreamed of earning during his football career.
