US President Donald Trump has expressed willingness to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin next month to discuss nuclear disarmament, arms control and trade.
According to Reuters, Trump said he would welcome a joint meeting if Xi supported the proposal. The discussions could take place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled for November 18–19 in China.
The proposed meeting would bring together leaders of the world’s three largest nuclear powers for their first formal trilateral talks.
Trump’s proposal reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen relations with Moscow and Beijing, creating an opportunity for greater cooperation among the three powers. If successful, the talks could also promote dialogue, strengthen international security and support closer engagement with partners across Europe and Asia.
The discussions could also address Russia’s war in Ukraine, which continues to strain relations between Moscow and Western governments.
Although no final agreement on the proposed meeting has been announced, the discussions could provide an opportunity for the three governments to address nuclear risks, trade relations and wider international security concerns.
