The group, named the “Super Intelligence Force,” will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton.
Its members will also include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, as well as senior officials from the Department of Defense and the federal personnel agency.
Trump said the task force will report on its activities to the President and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
The group will work with government agencies, technology companies, public interest organizations, religious groups and operators of critical infrastructure involved in the development of artificial intelligence.
The announcement comes after Trump signed an executive order on September 29, 2026, directing government agencies to use the term “SI,” or “Super Intelligence,” in official documents and on government websites instead of “AI.”
Trump said the task force is intended to help ensure that the United States maintains a leading role in the development of the technology.
However, the shift from the term AI to SI has sparked debate, with some experts arguing that the new terminology could cause confusion because “Super Intelligence” generally refers to a more advanced level of artificial intelligence.
The creation of the task force comes as senior executives at major AI companies, including OpenAI and Anthropic, continue to call for stronger frameworks to regulate the use of the technology.
