Speaking to reporters on May 2, 2026, Trump was asked about the progress of a possible agreement between the United States and Iran.
He responded, “They told me the contents of the agreement, and they are going to present it to me in written form.”
When asked whether he could launch new attacks on Iran, Trump said such action remained possible if Iran continued what he described as inappropriate behavior.
He stated, “I don’t want to talk about it. What I mean is that I cannot simply tell a journalist, but if they behave badly and do something wrong, it is very possible that we would strike them again without hesitation.”
Meanwhile, an Iranian official said Tehran had agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to oil tankers on condition that the United States stops attacking Iran. However, discussions on halting Iran’s nuclear weapons activities would take place later — a proposal Trump reportedly rejected.
In a post on social media, Trump said the United States could not accept Iran’s demands in the negotiations, arguing that Tehran had not yet paid the full price for its actions.
Iran continues to maintain restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz, considered one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
Global oil prices have surged by 7%, with a barrel rising above $126 for the first time since 2022, when the war between Russia and Ukraine began.
