Kim Yo-jong, a senior official in North Korea’s ruling party, made the remarks on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, while criticising US policy and accusing Washington of continuing to target her country.
According to The Telegraph, Kim said North Korea had no reason to sit down with American officials who continued to call for dialogue while prioritising military activities and sanctions against Pyongyang.
She questioned the need for talks with people who claim to seek peace but continue actions that confront North Korea.
Although she acknowledged that dialogue could be a path towards peace, she insisted that the United States must first change its policy towards North Korea.
Her remarks come amid expectations that Trump and Kim Jong Un could meet on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, scheduled to take place in China in two weeks.
However, analysts say the possibility of a meeting between the two leaders is becoming increasingly unlikely.
Trump and Kim Jong Un met three times during Trump’s first term in office, but efforts to arrange another meeting since he returned to power have yet to produce results.
In October 2026, Trump said he had a good relationship with Kim Jong Un, but had not received a request for a meeting.
Reports indicate that US officials attempted to establish contact with North Korea through Washington’s ambassador to the United Nations. However, Pyongyang reportedly rejected the overtures as Washington continued to demand that it abandon its nuclear weapons.
Kim Yo-jong said US demands, joint military exercises with South Korea and sanctions imposed on her country demonstrated that Washington was continuing its confrontational policy.
Tensions have continued to escalate as North Korea presses ahead with missile tests. On November 4, the country launched another missile into waters off its eastern coast.
It was the fourth missile test conducted by North Korea within a month, raising further concerns about regional security.
Although Kim Yo-jong did not rule out the possibility of her brother meeting Trump, her remarks suggest that North Korea is unwilling to resume talks with the United States unless Washington changes its policy towards Pyongyang.
